Katie is the founder of Tradeshow Bootcamp and owner of Kelp Designs, a Southern California based stationery studio. Her cards and accessories can be found in stores nationwide. Katie earned her MBA in marketing and finance from Loyola Marymount University and has spent the last 14 years coaching small businesses on marketing and business development strategies, while building Kelp Designs. Katie has taught classes for CreativeLive and has spoken at the Unique Camp, Savvy Experience, Sean Wes Conference and has coached and mentored over 600 independent businesses through Tradeshow Bootcamp. Katie has a passion for creating, a mind for business and a strong desire to help others succeed.
Adam is the modest owner of one of the best companies ever; Life is Funny Press. Launching Life Is Funny in 2009, Adam has been working in the printing industry since 2003 and has been printing letterpress since 2006. Armed with a Sharpie and a sense of humor that very well may have peaked during Clinton’s first term, Adam designs and prints all of his cards from his Los Angeles based studio. Adam attended Tradeshow Bootcamp’s Paper Camp in 2014 and showed his line at the National Stationery Show for the first time in 2014 as well.
Ali is the owner of E. Frances Paper, a sweet and happy stationery company that hopes to remind you that it’s the little things in life that are really, really good. She runs the company with her two sisters, with whom she might spend slightly too much time on daily dessert discussions. Ali started E. Frances Paper in 2013 after working many years as a graphic designer and illustrator teacher, and now creates all the hand-painted watercolor paintings for their card and gift lines. Ali attended TSBC’s Paper Camp in the spring of 2013, launched her wholesale line in the summer of 2013 and exhibited for the first time at the National Stationery Show in 2014.
Allyson is a brand manager at MailChimp, an email marketing service that allows people to create, send and track email newsletters. She travels frequently to events and talks with people about how to use email marketing to support their businesses. Allyson nursed a life-long obsession for stationery during her time at Mohawk as project manager and editor of stationery and design blog Felt & Wire.
Briana is the owner of Brainstorm, a New Hampshire based illustration studio with an online shop full of silkscreen and digital art prints. Along with biz partner (and almost husband) Jason, she’s always working to expand her collection by mixing hand-drawn elements with modern screenprinting techniques. Her prints range from educational and informative to totally nonsensical, simple, and bold. Brainstorm prints are carried in stores big and small around the globe and can usually be found hanging on the walls of young hip parents in your nearest major city. Brainstorm is also available for interesting custom illustration projects and plans to teach print classes in their studio in the coming months. Briana attended TSBC’s Paper Camp in 2013 and has exhibited at the National Stationery Show twice.
Alyssa joined Laura Hooper Calligraphy full-time in January 2014 after working part-time for Laura Hooper Calligraphy for nearly five years, while simultaneously enjoying a “day-job” in event management for over 10. In addition to corresponding with potential and current clients, Alyssa manages collaborations with creative colleagues in both the wedding and lifestyle industries. Most recently, Alyssa has implemented an everyday line of products.
Amber is the owner of Flywheel Press, a graphic design letterpress studio and retail store-front located in the San Francisco Bay area. Amber firmly believes in paying it forward and sharing her experiences in an effort to help others. In addition to her work at Flywheel Press, Amber recently launched an after school art program to teach children about printing and running a business. Amber has exhibited at the National Stationery Show, both in a shared and solo booth, as well as at the California Gift Show.
Carina is the founder of Crow + Canary, currently representing a diverse line up of independent designers and card companies. Carina is a frequent speaker on business related topics pertaining to the stationery industry. She contributes to design blogs such as Design*Sponge and Oh So Beautiful Paper, and has been profiled on numerous stationery and business blogs. Crow & Canary has exhibited numerous times at New York Now and the National Stationery Show.
Cathy Olson is a wife, mom of 2, and a believer in authenticity and following your heart. Cathy has been a professional graphic designer for 15 years, working with multimillion dollar brands – and opened her own business, Love-Inspired 7 years ago to help small businesses find THEIR voice. Cathy has an intense love and passion for small creative businesses and shares her experiences, teaches life/work balance through e-courses, workshops, personal business consulting, and loves sharing tips for creative businesses. Chelsea is co-founder of Sugar Paper, a design studio & retail boutique located in Los Angeles, California. Chelsea and her business partner, Jamie Groebecker, believe that personal stationery makes a deep, lasting impression. These close friends founded Sugar Paper in 2003 after falling in love with the simplicity and nostalgia of letterpress printing. Today, Sugar Paper is renowned for its design aesthetic, unparalleled taste and perfectionism. They have been featured in Martha Stewart weddings, VOGUE, InStyle, Lucky, Vanity Fair, Real Simple and Domino.
Claudia is the founder of Fig 2. Design Studio. Named one of Stationery Trends ‘Top 10 Designers to Watch’ in 2012, Claudia’s work has been featured in top tier publications such as Martha Stewart Weddings and Bride’s. Claudia’s wedding collections can be found in stores nationwide, including the Judy Paulen boutique at the Bloomingdales flagship store in NYC. 2014 will mark Claudia’s fourth year exhibiting at the National Stationery Show. Claudia attributes TSBC as part of her success and confidence in exhibiting at NSS and taking her business to the next level.
Craig Hetzer began his publishing career in the early 1990s at Chronicle Books in San Francisco, CA. His first editorial acquisition was the bestselling 52 Decks series. By the time he left in 2002, Craig had helped launch the company’s first retail store and worked his way up through the creative ranks to Associate Publisher of the Gift Division Craig is currently Publisher at Knock Knock, an award-winning purveyor of witty books and paper products based in Venice, CA, where he’s been exercising his irreverent sensibility since 2009. He often gets creative inspiration while stuck in traffic, or while peeling an orange at his desk.
Cyd Converse founded The Sweetest Occasion in 2008, bringing her lifelong passion for design, entertaining, fashion and photography to life. By day, Cyd can be found blogging, day dreaming, keeping company with her lovable old black lab, drinking copious amounts of coffee, and planning weekend trips to the farmer’s market. She holds an undergraduate degree in architecture and a Master of Business Administration from St. Bonaventure University. Erika is the Creative Director of Analog Creative Co. and the founder of Delphine and Chromatic & Co., award-winning invitation, stationery and design companies. Erika was named one of the “Top 10 Designers to Watch” by Stationery Trends Magazine along with Jonathan Adler and Vera Wang. Delphine’s wedding albums were carried in top tier Papyrus stores and hand selected retailers nationwide. Erika’s work has been featured in magazines such as Martha Stewart Weddings, Exquisite Weddings and The Knot, as well as on countless blogs and design books. Erika has exhibited at the National Stationery Show, Atlanta Gift Show, and New York Gift Now.
Hayley Tumanjan runs Tumanjan & Co., an accounting and tax firm in Rolling Hills, CA. Her career started in a large public accounting firm and moved to investment accounting for a large hedge fund group. She has gradually transitioned into an accounting and tax practice where she is passionate about seeing Entrepreneurs find success, and save money in doing so. She appreciates what each dollar means for a growing business, as she has been through the same growing pains.
Heather is co-owner of Rock, Paper, Scissors, a custom invitation and paper goods shop located in Charlottesville, Virginia. She manages the retail side of the business, finessing what to order, when, and how many. She loves hearing shoppers laugh out loud as they read cards in the shop –confirmation that she’s brought on the right mix of sassy and sweet.
Jen Gotch has been around the block a time or two. She has worked as a bartender, a cleaning lady, an art teacher, barista, rickshaw driver, molecular biologist, photographer and prop stylist. Ok, one of those may have been a lie, but only one, she swears! She now serves as the Creative Director for Ban.do, a company she founded with a friend in 2008. Watching this company grow from a small vintage, one of a kind hair accessory company that operated out of her living room to a multi million dollar gift, tech and fashion accessory brand has been one of her greatest joys in life. Her passion to continue to grow this uber fun brand, while sharing her experience along the way with others who are interested in taking the same path, so as to inform their journey and maybe help them avoid some of the hard stuff. Although she whole heartedly believes its the hard stuff that makes us who we are.
Jen Pham-Corbett is co-owner of Farewell Paper with friend and business partner, Lisa G. Towns. They design and hand print a sassy line of letterpress greeting cards, paper goods and gift items from a sweet studio in Seattle, WA. Jen and Lisa attended Paper Camp in 2012, and the webinars in 2013; they have exhibited at the San Francisco Gift Show and the National Stationery Show.
John is currently the eCommerce Director at a large retail chain and was previously the Director of eCommerce + Operations for Delphine. John has broad experience directing eCommerce, web development, technical, financial and administrative projects. With previous hard-earned leadership and operational experience as an officer in the U.S. Marine Corps; John’s discipline and love of efficiency, coupled with his appreciation for user experience and good design, keeps things running smoothly.
Julie O’Brien is the co-owner of Sweet Paper, a stationery boutique in La Jolla, California that specializes in cute and stylish cards, wedding invitations, custom stationery and unique gifts. Julie’s first career was in the event planning industry, working with large companies like Cisco Systems and Sun Microsystems to coordinate events throughout the US and Europe. In 2000 she left event planning to serve as COO for a student loan financing company that did over 1 billion dollars in loan volume per year. Deciding she preferred business with a more creative aspect, she married her business experience with her love of stationery to found Sweet Paper with her sister Theresa in 2010.
Kate is the owner of Broadway Paper, a stationery boutique in Milwaukee, Wisconsin that offers greeting cards, calendars, prints wedding invitations and personalized gifts. Kate fell in love with the longtime stationery business and took a job in the shipping & receiving department in 2008 after college. After a short time of heavy lifting and opening hundreds of boxes and learning more about the industry, she purchased the company from her employer in 2009.
Kiffanie is on a mission to teach creative entrepreneurs that the law doesn’t have to equal scary. She founded the artist’s J.D. to empower creative business owners about the legal aspects of their business. Kiffanie is an avid lover of the post and sends a handwritten card or letter at least once a week. Kiffanie also enjoys taking photographs, working in her garden, and pickling fruit.
Kimberly Baker is publisher of the specialty retail division of Great American Media Services, overseeing the teams for Stationery Trends, Gift Shop, Museums & More and Party & Paper Retailer. Julie Stewart is Senior Counsel for a Fortune 500 and also the owner of Kiss and Punch Designs, a Los Angeles design studio offering letterpress goods. Julie earned her J.D. from UCLA and specializes in corporate law and commercial contracts including vendor agreements, sponsorships and licensing. Julie is a TSBC alum and understands what it takes to run a small business in the stationery industry.
Kimberley is the New York sales representative for Crow + Canary. During her 15+ year career in the stationery industry, Kimberley has worked at Crane & Co., Kate’s Paperie, as well as two of her own independent boutiques. She got her start running a letterpress studio, and has since worked all sides of the business – manufacturing, wholesaling, custom printing, multi-unit retail, buying, merchandising, and now repping. She has attended tradeshows as both a buyer and exhibitor. Kimberley’s vast experience in the industry provides a unique and valuable perspective.
Laura, of Laura Hooper Calligraphy has worked with countless brides and grooms to create the most elegant calligraphy for their invitations and wedding stationery. She also designs custom hand drawn maps, unique place cards and other chic items for the most discerning of brides. Laura has worked with several high profile celebrities and companies for their personal and corporate events, and has been published in numerous magazines, including The Knot, Inside Weddings, Martha Stewart Weddings and Town & Country Weddings, among others.
Lisa Krowinski is the chief rocka at Sapling Press, a letterpress studio based in Pittsburgh. In 10 years, Lisa has grown Sapling Press into a nationally recognized brand with her greeting cards sold online and in stores internationally. She sells direct to consumer, wholesale, licenses her art, licenses copy from others and works on custom design and print projects. In addition, Lisa runs letterpress workshops from her studio.
Lori is the owner of Marzipan Inc., an extensive stationery line of embellished greeting cards, letterpress cards, custom imprintables and photo cards. Her cards are sold online and in stores internationally. Lori has been working in the stationery industry for more than 13 years and brings a wealth of knowledge to the table, including experience working with distributors, reps and hiring a team of employees.
Mary Kate is a photographer based in Frederick, Maryland. Mary Kate photographs everything from weddings and families, to corporate events, to products. In fact, she photographed our Paper Camp conference in DC last October and has done product photography for several TSBC alums! A photographer for more than 10 years, Mary Kate enjoys helping families and businesses tell their story.
Megan Soh is the studio manager at Fig. 2 Design and heads up business operations like fielding client inquiries, inventory management, order fulfillment, and being Claudia’s second pair of eyes and voice of reason in design and production decisions. On the side, Megan freelances for many small businesses doing everything from wedding coordination and photo styling to guiding in creative strategy and business organization. And when she has a chance to catch her breath, you can find her writing her lifestyle blog, petitely.
Meg is the boss lady and doodler at Belle & Union Co., a stationery company brimming with old-fashioned American wit and wisdom, whose writings, wrappings and wares feature hand-rendered typography and illustrations. She currently resides in College Station, Texas (whoop!) with her husband, Joshua, self-proclaimed press whisperer and all around jobber for B&U, and their shop dog, Ellie, who mainly sleeps when not chasing squirrels.
Michelle Loretta is a consultant for small business owners and writes daily for the Sage Wedding Pros’ business blog. She blends her past as an accounting nerd, sales vixen, and stationery entrepreneur to help entrepreneurs better their businesses. Her particular strength is in financial analysis and strategy. She loves educating others on money matters and can help any business owner be more confident and intentional in their finance decisions.
Nole is editor and publisher of Oh So Beautiful Paper, a daily design, wedding, and lifestyle blog. Nole is passionate about design and all things paper. She fell in love with the world of wedding invitations and stationery while planning her May 2008 Washington, DC wedding and started Oh So Beautiful Paper to help connect other engaged couples with talented designers.
Paul Leach is a Wealth Management Advisor with Merrill Lynch. His emphasis is wealth planning and investment strategies for high net worth families and individuals. Paul earned his bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of California, San Diego and his MBA in Finance from Loyola Marymount University.
Sarah is the founding editor and editor-in-chief of Stationery Trends, an award-winning, design-focused trade quarterly magazine devoted to all things paper. In producing each issue, Sarah reviews a huge volume of work encompassing both up-and-coming designers and established industry icons, plus many in between. She travels to trade shows around the world to spot emerging trends and is a frequent industry speaker — her seminars at National Stationery Show are typically standing room only and sell out each year. Sarah has been quoted extensively in the media and blogs at ThePaperChronicles.com. After graduating from NYU, she worked in various editorial positions in publishing including a stint in HarperCollins’ illustrated book division. Sarah lives in Ohio with her husband, young daughter and small dog.
Rachael is the founder and co-owner of Pistachio Press, a Rochester, NY letterpress studio and retail store-front specializing in fine stationery, greeting cards, invitations and limited edition prints. Her products are sold online and in stores internationally. In addition to running Pistachio Press, Rachael teaches fine art at the University of Rochester. Rachael has exhibited at the National Stationery Show, New York Now and the Atlanta Gift Mart for several years, in both shared and individual booths.
Rosanna Kvernmo is the designer and printer behind the Iron Curtain Press a letterpress studio focused on custom work with a line of greeting cards based in Los Angeles. She exhibited at the National Stationery Show in 2013 and credits Paper Camp + the TSBC community with helping her on the path towards a successful first show.
Samantha is the owner of Noteify, an eco-friendly, city-inspired paper products and soft goods company. Samantha started note•ify in 2009 after working for 10 years in the San Francisco advertising scene as an art director. She loves to travel and uses her original photography to influence her stationery designs. Her favorite spots outside of the U.S. are Africa, Amsterdam, Vietnam, Cuba, and Mexico. Samantha has done the Renegade Craft Fair in San Francisco, Austin, Brooklyn and Los Angeles, as well as SF Bazaar Bazaar, SF Made Holiday Gift Fair, Indie Mart, Patchwork, Unique SF, and many more. She is also one of the organizers of the Holiday Crafterino in Petaluma.
Samantha is co-owner of Gus & Ruby, a paper boutique and letterpress print studio in studio in Portsmouth, NH. She loves spending her days working with clients to craft the perfect invitation or announcement and believes in celebrating all of life’s momentous occasions.
The Paper Cub Co. is a line of screenprinted modern greetings and paper goods by designer Shannon Kennedy based out of Winter Park, FL. Featuring hand-drawn lettering and bold color combinations, Shannon mixes design sophistication with a bit of fun to create a collection that is truly distinct. Shannon attended TSBC prior to exhibiting at the National Stationery Show for the first time in 2013.
Tara Gentile is a business strategist and the author of Quiet Power Strategy. She works with entrepreneurs and idea people to help them leverage their Quiet Power and build businesses that generate wealth, peace, and ease. Her clients learn to lead themselves and their businesses based on what makes them most effective and compelling.
